Florida Keys – Best Time To Travel
Are you thinking perhaps you are ready to plan your trip to the Florida Keys but aren’t sure what time of year to travel? I think personally it depends on when you want to vacation, what time of year you can go and just your own personal preference. In this post, I’ll try to give you all the information so that you can make an informed decision on when is the right time for you.
First thing is to know when the hurricane season runs in Florida. It is known to begin on June 1 and will end around November 30. On average, from history dictating, the probability of a hurricane hitting somewhere in Florida is once in every two years. In the Florida Keys, the 100 year average of an impact from a hurricane would be one in every 4.5 yrs. But, the chances are much greater from August 15 to October 1st. Not sure why, they go according to historical facts. Just remember this is not an exact science, so in reality it is hard to really predict.
When there is an evacuation, it is because the path of the storm is heading towards the Florida Keys. However, that path most likely will change, but no one really will know until the last minute. So, if you are there and there is an evacuation, visitors and tourists are asked to leave much earlier than the residents. You would have plenty of time to find safe haven, so don’t let the time of year stop you from a great vacation. Prices are cheaper in the summer and fall months if you are on a budget.
Here’s an example of the difference in prices:
Dec – April =Most Expensive
May – September =Cheaper
Sept – December 15 = Cheapest
So basically, if you want to get the best rates for your buck, you may want to go in September, October or November. We went in Febuary this past year right in the middle of their prime time high season and it was expensive, but if you want to save over 30% you may just want to go in the cheaper months. Hope that helps.
Until next time……
