mallory 300x225 Key West August & September Events

August and September events in Key West stay in the partying spirit as this time of year folks are getting their kids back to school and preparing for the holidays and old man winter. But still, many others find this time of year the best time to travel and the Keys are a wonderful place to be.

What’s going on in August?

August Events

The Key West Lobster Fest happens in August and is when the official opening of Lobster season begins. But on Duval Street, everyone is partying up a storm with street fairs, live music and arts and crafts and a FREE concert you won’t want to miss. The folks in the Keys don’t need much reason to have a party! When you watch the following video you will want to be there….look at the size of those lobsters!

Captain Tony Days celebrates another local legend who owned the famous bar Captain Tony’s on Green Street, which was the original location of the famous Sloppy Joe Bar. In the video below you can find out all about the bar. It’s just a quick video, so enjoy!

September Events

The Key West Brew Fest is usually on Labor Day weekend and is an event that will feature over 60 different beers, many of them micro brews that have won awards. If you plan on being in Key West during Labor Day, you will want to check this fest out! If you need the exact dates and times call 800-354-4455.

In another Gay/Lesbian event, there is Womenfest! It is about lesbians and friends during a week of partying, dancing, music and more. You can call 305-294-4603 if you need more information.

Here is the event of September, the annual Key West Poker Run where over 10 thousand motorcyclists travel the only road into Key West and while doing so, they stop at certain stops along the way, collecting cards for their annual poker run. The best hand wins a prize along with many other prizes too. Parts of Duval Street will be blocked off during this time so the bikes can line up along Duval street and show off their bikes. For more information and to be involved call 305-235-4023.

Want to know what it looks like to be at the Key West Poker Run? This is a nice video and runs about 8 minutes long and if you don’t mind watching the guy ride the Overseas highway for about 6 minutes, enjoy! But I skipped it ahead to about the 7th minute so I could see the bikes in Key West on Duval Street. It will give you an idea of what it’s like riding in the beautiful Keys:

What did you think? Ready to saddle up and head to the Key West Poker Run on your Harley?

Next post I’ll be wrapping up the months of October, November and December.
